Music Network presents Jackie Daly (accordion) / Matt Cranitch (Fiddle) / John Faulkner (Guitar, Bouzouki, Songs)

Prepare for a night to remember as the combined talents of Jackie Daly, Matt Cranitch and John Faulkner team up to bring some of the finest Irish traditional music on a nationwide Music Network tour.

The words ‘Button Accordion’ and ‘Jackie Daly’ are synonymous in the world of Irish traditional music. Described as “probably the best accordionist in Ireland”, Jackie grew up surrounded by the rich music tradition of Sliabh Luachra. Jackie was a central figure in groups such as De Danann, Patrick Street, Buttons and Bows, Arcady, Reel Union and Kinvara which all attest to his wonderful music and versatility.

Matt Cranitch is a spell-binding perfomer and an authority on the Sliabh Luachra fiddle-style.
Renowned as a fiddle-player and teacher, he has performed extensively at home in Ireland and abroad. Author of The Irish Fiddle Book, he currently plays with Sliabh Notes, with whom he has recorded three highly-acclaimed albums.

For more than 25 years, John Faulkner has enjoyed a career as an acclaimed musician and singer/songwriter. He has performed extensively throughout the world, sharing the stage with many other musicians, among them Ewan MacColl, Dolores Keane, Kevin Burke, Arty McGlynn, Nollaig Casey, De Dannan as well as US legend John Prine.

The Living Stream Tour will showcase different but complementary facets of live music performance in the Ireland of today, embracing both traditional and contemporary idioms.

For many years, Jackie Daly (accordion) and Matt Cranitch (fiddle) have been among the foremost interpreters of the rich Sliabh Luachra tradition of instrumental music. The unique cultural area on the borders of northwest Cork and east Kerry provides a special repertoire of tunes as well as a very distinctive style of playing, and has long been a source of inspiration for both Jackie and Matt. Through their respective performances over many years, they have established enviable individual reputations in the world of Irish traditional music. Together however, the vibrant music that they create displays an additional collaborative dimension.

John Faulkner is a musician and singer with a keen knowledge of the Irish music tradition. His deep interest in ethnic music of all kinds initially drew him to the strong living tradition of music in Ireland. As a noted songwriter, he has written many fine songs, and has also composed music for a number of films. In his singing, John expresses each song with deeply-felt passion and feeling, a feature that will complement and at the same time provide a contrast to the instrumental music from Jackie and Matt.

Each of the concerts from these three performers, in addition to being a highly enjoyable and stimulating occasion in itself, will attest in a very comprehensive manner to the continuing relevance of the living stream of traditional music in Ireland.
