O’CAROLAN HARP, CULTURAL & HERITAGE FESTIVAL

Barco and The Chronicles of Meath to play at O’Carolan Harp,
Cultural & Heritage Festival Nobber, Co. Meath.

Barco – The DeBarra Brothers, a family steeped in traditional Irish music. Individually these young men lead amazing musical careers, but it’s when they come together as a family musically that the sparks fly. You are guaranteed an unforgettable night of dance-music, gorgeous airs and evocative old songs.

The Chronicles of Meath by Vincent Kenndy performed by The Meath Harp Ensemble. This work was commissioned by Meath County Council, each movement is inspired by a different aspect of County Meath’s rich history and heritage and uses different forms of music to convey the aspect.

The Festival has established itself over the years as one of Ireland’s leading musical events. The 2013 Festival, in memory of the great harper and composer Turlough O’Carolan who was born in Nobber, Co. Meath, this year celebrates 26 years and is a popular event which promises to be even more successful than the previous festivals.

Throughout the Festival weekend there are Concerts, Music Sessions, Instrumental Workshops, Ceilí, Lecture, Historical Tour and of course Harp Competitions with prizes of O’Carolan Perpetual Cups & Crystal. Salvi harps will also be exhibiting on Saturday 5th.

Among the Bands and Artistes appearing at the Festival are Barco (the DeBarra Brothers, Meath Harp Ensemble & Vincent Kennedy performing The Chronicles of Meath, Martin Donohoe, Seamus Mac Gabhann, Tara Ceili Band and Micheal Mac Diarmada.

Our panel of tutors for the Saturday workshops will be given by, Anton Mac Gabhann (Fiddle), Brona Graham (Banjo), Barry Leonard (Button Accordion), Kim Fleming, Cormac De Barra and Oisin Morrison (harp).

Renowned button accordionist Martin Donohoe opens proceedings on Friday 5th October at 9.00pm
