“One of the most beautifully euphoric live experiences” BBC World Review

‘Softly spoken off stage and complete lunatics on it, Kíla have torn up the rulebook with their wantonly eclectic mix of styles, Brilliant!’- Hot Press

“Whatever it is… this is it. Kíla are right there at the cusp of it… Somehow you get the feeling they lit the fuse for the big bang.” Bono

Kíla are: Brothers Rónán, Rossa, Colm Ó Snodaigh, Dee Armstrong,
Brian Hogan, Seanán Brennan, Dave Hingerty and James Mahon

Formed at school in Dublin’s late 1980’s, Kíla have come to be considered one of Ireland’s most exciting and innovative bands. Their unique and ever evolving sound, while rooted in tradition, is inspired by a myriad of influences from all around the world.

Sometimes described as contemporary Irish world music, Kíla fuse Gaelic lyrics, Irish folk instruments such as Fiddles, Uilleann Pipes, Bodhrán, Bones and Woodwinds with Djembe, Congas, Drums, Mandolins, Brass, Bass, Acoustic and Electric Guitars.

Kíla’s eight members come from the differing musical backrounds of traditional, classical and rock. The result is always a fresh blend of freewheeling instrumentals, furious jigs, and primal rhythms that transcend the traditional boundaries of Irish music. Bristling with passion and energy their 19th album “Alive - Beo” (3rd live album) and 1st Vinyl is set for it’s official release on record Store Day outside Tower Records in Dublin @1pm.

Kíla have enjoyed collaborating with many renowned musicians and artists. They recorded a number 1 single “The Ballad of Ronnie Drew” with U2, The Dubliners, Shane MacGowan, Sinead O’Connor, Glen Hansard, The Corrs, Christy Moore, Damien Dempsey and a host of other artists with proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society.
The song was later included on a U2.com collaborations album DUALS (2012):

Kíla are famed for their energetic performances and have played in over 30 countries in North America, Asia, Austral Asia, Africa and Europe at notable festivals like the Montreux Jazz Festival, numerous WOMADs worldwide, the Sziget Festival Hungary and closer to home Glastonbury and The Electric Picnic. The band have also had the privilege of playing at Special Olympics Opening Ceremony and at Possibilities, the event that welcomed the Dalai Lama to Ireland. In 2016 Kíla closed the Cambridge Folk Festival with Imelda May joining them onstage.

Kíla have worked extensively in TV and film. Most notably their collaboration with French composer Bruno Coulais on the soundtracks for Cartoon Saloon’s two Oscar nominated animated films The Secret of Kells (2010) and The Song of the Sea (2014).

In 2015 Kíla were nominated for an Emmy Award for their soundtrack to the feature length documentary “Ireland’s Wild River” and their music has also been used in a number of BBC2 Timewatch documentaries.

The band are well used to whipping up a spirited St. Patrick’s festival frenzy. Some memorable moments include the festival presenter, comedian Dara Ó Briain, spontaneously breaking into a hilarious dance in front of the 100,000 strong crowd and the surreal experience of The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood asking if he could join them onstage in the Olympia Theatre, Dublin on St Pactrick’s Day.
