ZOË CONWAY AND JOHN MCINTYRE ON TOUR

Following the success of their last sell-out Irish tour, Zoë Conway and John McIntyre are now embarking on a nationwide autumn tour. Zoë has been touring with guitarist, John McIntyre for the past year and the duo has received a tremendous response from audiences across Europe. John is a member of the well-known rock band, The Revs. Alongside his ‘rock n roll’ playing, John has a strong background in Irish Traditional music and has also studied classical guitar. As a result, he is increasingly in demand for guitar master classes and workshops. John is currently recording a solo album, due for European release next year.

CELTIC COLOURS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

This year’s Celtic Colours International Festival will open on October 5th, at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre Arena, with the world-renowned group The Chieftains and close nine days later, at the Big Fiddle in Sydney, with a special tribute celebrating 20 years of the Barra MacNeils. The festival continues to grow and this year will feature 45 performances, over 200 education presentations, dinners, dances, guided walks and a visual art series.

JIMMY IN FLORIDA

Cork institution, Jimmy Crowley has set up a base just North of Tampa, Florida to concentrate his career on the Irish-American folk circuit. Residents of Jackson County will be able to see the balladeer perform on September 15th in the 1,000-seat auditorium in William Chrisman High School when the local Lions Club presents “Emerald Autumn,” a benefit concert with Jimmy Crowley, The Kelihans, Bob Reeder and Pipes and Drums of Ararat Shrine. “Help us help the Blind” is the theme of the concert, which the Irish Music Association is co-producing. Lions members, Lance Garnish and Jan Ferguson are co-chairing the event, which they hope will raise $10,000 or more for such Lions-sponsored projects as recycling eyeglasses, lazy-eye screenings, diabetes screening and other vision-related projects.

GERRY FIDDLE O’ CONNOR IN EUROPE

The popular County Louth fiddler will tour Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, also Luxembourg and Denmark this autumn. He will be on the Pure Irish Drops tour from the 26th of September until the 21st of October. The travelling festival is to be called “The Music and Song of South Ulster,” and Gerry will perform with Garbriel McArdle (Songs, Concertina, Whistle) and Martin Quinn (Accordion). It is due to the unforeseen circumstances, that Celtic Woman have had to postpone their upcoming autumn European and UK tours tour. Tickets for the UK shows will be refunded at point of purchase. Celtic Woman, in postponing their European tour, tell us that it is to be rescheduled for January next year. Dates will be announced shortly. Tickets for the European dates will be valid for the rescheduled shows, or can be refunded at the point of purchase.

CELEBRATION OF IRISH ARTS AND CULTURE AT VENUES ACROSS LEEDS

A twelve-day celebration of Irish arts and culture will soon kick off in Leeds from the 7th to the 18th of November. Dozens of events including music sessions, literary, film and theatrical events and talks are planned to take place at venues across Leeds, bringing Ireland’s finest artists to the city.

DOOKIN! NEW BATTLEFIELD BAND ALBUM TO BE RELEASED IN SEPTEMBER!

With a US release on 12th September followed a fortnight later with a UK release on 28th September, Dookin (as in “dookin’ for apples”) and that is just what Battlefield Band have been doing for all these years – dookin’ into the great pool of Scottish (and Irish) music and song. The album will be released on Temple Records and will be available through the Temple Records online shop and in all good record stores.
Battlefield Band will also be in Northern Ireland in September, with shows confirmed in Derry City, Magherafelt & Newtownards (At the Festival of the Peninsula). They will be on the road in USA and Canada during September and October and back to the UK for a tour in November.
