KILKENNY CELTIC FESTIVAL

26th September – 5th October, 2008
www.celticfestival.ie

Irish traditional music lovers flock to Kilkenny during the annual Celtic Festival - Friday September 26th to Sunday October 5th. It certainly is the place to be for all. Of course being located in Ireland’s Mediaeval Capital certainly helps but at the end of the day – indeed all day – it is the music and the crack that is the real attraction and makes for an irresistible reason to travel south to the sun and fun for this year’s Kilkenny Celtic Festival.

The flagship event this year is Lúnasa in Concert - surely one of the most sought after groups on the Irish and international scene at the moment. Lúnasa’s inventive arrangements are steering Irish music into surprising new territories, reaffirming their reputation as ‘the best Irish traditional band on the planet’ (The Irish Echo, USA). Their passion for the music and ability to transport it to new levels makes Lúnasa simply irresistible. “Anybody who listens can’t help but find them contagious” (Billboard, USA)

This concert at 8pm on Friday October 3rd is sure to be a sell out in the comfortable but compact Watergate theatre in Kilkenny so early application for tickets is strongly recommended Admission price €25.00 Concession €20.00 Box office Tel 056 776 1674.

Add in lunch time and evening concerts, choral and musical, in settings that themselves add greatly to the pleasure, plus many late night gigs in welcoming pubs featuring the music of Ireland and other Celtic Countries. The ten day programme covers whiskey (and whisky) tastings, also poetry session, heraldry, dance and many music workshops. For the outdoor and sporty types come and cheer on competitors in the annual currach river racing on Sunday morning. Couple all of that with the famous Celtic Feast Banquet on Saturday - under the personal supervision of celebratory TV chef  Éamonn Ó Catháin. So much more to enjoy and savour; so call into any tourist office for a free brochure or check out our website which has all the latest news and details. Make this the year you take part in Ireland’s friendliest and best Celtic Festival. We bring the sunshine back to Ireland’s autumn.
