CATSKILLS IRISH ARTS WEEK

The Catskills Irish Arts Week celebrates its 15th year in East Durham, New York next summer from July 12-18th, 2009. The largest summer school in North America devoted to traditional Irish music and dance runs classes in a variety of instruments, singing, sean nos and set dancing (Tony Ryan is the dancing master this summer) and Irish step dancing plus some crafts classes. It features daily topical lectures, concerts, ceilithe and sessions galore every night around the area. The week closes with the Andy McGann Irish Music Festival.

Returning from Ireland in 2009 are Jackie Daly, Paul deGrae, Catherine McEvoy, June McCormack, Michael Rooney, Liz and Yvonne Kane, Edel Fox and Matt Cranitch joined by his Sliabh Notes mates, Donal Murphy and Tommy O’Sullivan who make their first appearance at the CIAW along with Antoin Mac Gabhann and uilleann piper David Powers. Mary Bergin returns for her 13th year in the Catskills where the U.S. launch of her new tin-whistle tutor book/CD is highly anticipated.
The U.S. staff includes: Mike Rafferty, Charlie Coen, Billy McComiskey, Brian Conway, Rose Flanagan, Patrick Ourceau, Gearoid O’hAllmhurain, Willie Kelly, Kieran Jordan, Myron Bretholz, Felix and Brendan Dolan, Laura and Pat Egan, Jimmy Keane, Don Meade and others. The CIAW is organised for the M. J. Quill Irish Cultural and Sports Centre and receives sponsorship from Culture Ireland and Greene Tourism.
