May 1st-4th, 2009

2009’s Cup of Tae will see the festival honour one of Donegal’s truely great fiddle players James Bryne (An Beirneach). The committee contacted James in August 2008 and he was humbled and honoured to be recognised by the committee and was looking forward to the event. Indeed James was organising the opening concert and intended inviting friends and musicians that he admired to the concert in his honour. Sadly James passed away before Christmas 2008.

Now with the permission of Connie and the girls the opening concert at 2009’s Cup of Tae will be in memory of the great man. His friends will organise a concert that James would be proud off. We expect a great crowd of musicians and people who admire the work of James Bryne. The Concert will be held at the Heritage centre at 8pm, Friday May 1st.

Cup of Tae continues this year with its famous schools of music in Fiddle, Flute, Whistle, Accordion, Piano, Concertina and Singing. Cup of Tae festival is quite unique and this is evident by the huge volume of musicians from all over Ireland and abroad that can be seen playing anywhere in this popular village. If you haven’t been to the Cup of Tae, no words here will give it justice you must visit.
