The most exciting and innovative news on the Irish music scene is happening right here in Co. Sligo. It is the opening in April 2009 of the brand new, up to the minute exhibition and information unit at Ceoláras Coleman, Gurteen, Co. Sligo. In this purpose built facility, there are listening posts, display boards and a stunning audio visual presentation. This audio visual is the very first thing you see when you visit. It sets the tone for the whole project, showing and illustrating a history of traditional Irish music and the musical instruments themselves.

In the beautifully laid out exhibition area, there are no less that ten touch screens. Three of these are devoted to the music and musical styles of Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Fermanagh and the U.S.A. This is a wide but fascinating spectrum. Two touch screens provide a comprehensive display of photographs, spanning a period of half a century where important music events, musicians and personalities are captured for posterity. Music structure and styles are comprehensively covered in further touch screens and there is also one dealing with archive material. The final touch screen deals with dancing and dancing instruction. It is located in a small area with a floor suitable for trying out your expertise in all the various styles and tempos, including sean nós. There is a self contained, fully equipped recording studio which can be used by individuals and groups who wish to record for their own pleasure or on a commercial basis.

By the time the visitor has viewed and experienced all that the music and display area has to offer, the delights of the all new Coffee Shop awaits. No effort has been spared here and the variety of fare on offer rivals the best cuisine anywhere. Cappuccino, latte, black and white coffee are available as well as tea and scones, sandwiches and confectionary. Groups or individuals are catered for to the same high standard in a modern seated lounge.

The Music/Gift Shop in Ceoláras is renowned for its variety and quantity and quality of stock. Music books, instruments, a full range of CDs and a lovely selection of pottery and craftware are to be had at competitive prices. All payment methods are available.

The music and entertainment programme in the comfortable 140 seat theatre at Ceoláras Coleman always features the very best in traditional Irish music. Groups, individuals and special events are presented throughout the year. There are music festivals and also a valuable schools seminar programme organised and conducted by the most highly acclaimed and efficient personnel.
