The 30th Beamish Cork Folk Festival will take place between Thursday 1st October and Sunday 4th October 2009 at venues all over Cork City and everybody is invited. This is our 30th Festival and we plan to run an event that celebrates 30 years of great music, concerts, sessions and memories.

Highlights of the festival so far include;

· ‘Return to Douglas’ A concert at the Douglas GAA Hall, where we had the opening event of the 1st festival in 1979.

· A concert with Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin & Mel Mercier, Máirtín O’Connor, Cathal Hayden and Garry O’Briain with the backing of the Galway based ConTempo String Quartet.

· The première of a new composition in the traditional idiom by Niall Valley. This piece has been especially commissioned by the Arts Council and Lyric FM. It will be performed by Niall’s group Buille, Karan Casey and an Orchestra made up of seven string players, 2 horns, and several more traditional musicians.

· De Dannan will arrive back in Cork for a concert led by original member Frankie Gavin on fiddle. The new line up includes Michelle Lally, Damien Mullane, Mike Galvin and Eric Cunningham and their special guest will be Dolores Keane.

· Other artists confirmed are John & Pip Murphy, Jackie Daly and legendary Californian singer Julie Felix.

Throughout the festival weekend, audiences can sample everything from the very best fiddle, accordion, pipes and flute players in Ireland to a giant open-air Céilí Mór. As usual the festival will feature concerts from the Cork Blues, Pipes’ and singers’ clubs, plus lectures, children’s events and a music trail featuring 40 free sessions.
