PRIDE OF NEW YORK & STRING SISTERS: LIVE

PRIDE OF NEW YORK
(Joanie Madden, Brendan Dolan, Billy McComiskey, Brian Conway)

Pride of New York is a new Irish-American super group comprised of some of the best known players in America. Between them, they have won four All-Ireland championship awards, recorded multiple solo albums and logged countless miles touring across the US and abroad. But, at its essence, this quartet of singular talents is defined in spirit by the city of New York which gives the group its name.

“We are all quintessential New York musicians,” explains fiddler, Brain Conway, of his playing partners - Billy McComiskey on button accordion, Joanie Madden on flute and whistle, and Brendan Dolan on keyboards. Madden told IMM, “The musical camaraderie we share is rare.”

Many of the tunes on the album are written or associated with other past or present stalwarts of the New York Irish scene including Martin Mulhaire, Sean McGlynn, Jack Coen, Joe Burke, Paddy O’Brien, Larry Redican, Tom Doherty, and Charlie Mulvihill.

STRING SISTERS: LIVE
The String Sisters is a collaboration of the Celtic music world’s top female fiddlers, Annbjorg Lien from Norway, Catriona Macdonald from Shetland, Liz Carroll and Liz Knowles from the US, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (Altan) from Ireland and Emma Hardelin from Sweden. Originally brought together for a special one-time show at Glasgow’s annual Celtic Connections festival to celebrate each of their region’s musical traditions, the results of this live recording contain some of the most brilliant fiddling heard in Celtic music. On Live the String Sisters are joined by some of Celtic music’s instrumentalists; David Milligan (piano), Conrad Ivitsky (double bass), Tore Bruvoll (guitar) and James Mackintosh (drums).
