SOUNDZ OF MUZIC

A well established and “famous” music shop in Kerry has recently changed hands. The “Soundz of Muzic” has been trading in Henry Street, Kenmare for the last 15 years and was launched originally by Mr. John Rubin. John had worked in the music and film industry for many years, managing support acts for Michael Jackson and promoting films in Hollywood in a “colorful” and varied career.

His plan to retire to a quiet life running a small record shop in the tranquil town of Kenmare was thwarted when it proved an immediate success. In 2001 he took on Kit Dunlop as a business partner
and moved to larger premises down the street. Since then the shop has gone from strength to strength mainly by adapting to the changing nature of the record industry and by greatly expanding the range of musical instruments.

“Soundz” has what customers regularly claim is the largest selection of Traditional Irish Music CD’s in the South! And Traditional musicians have the choice of a comprehensive range of Folk Instruments from entry level upwards. All of the staff have a musical background and the shop has long standing contacts with local schools, clubs, music teachers and bands.

Since John Rubin retired at the end of 2008 Kit Dunlop has taken over the business on his own and continues to run “Soundz” with the team of Nathan, John Meskell and Gary that have been together for nearly ten years. There is a vibrant musical community in and around Kenmare and in 2010 Kenmare hosts the 50th Munster Fleadh. So check it out; Kenmare, Music and “The Soundz of Muzic”.
