FILM FEATURING KÍLA MUSIC IS ON ROAD TO OSCARS

The Secret of Kells the stunning feature length Irish animated film which takes a magical look at the story of the Book of Kells and the young St Brendan, and features a equally stunning soundtrack by French composer Bruno Coulais (Coroline, Microcosmos) and Irish band Kíla, has announced its plans for a US release.

GKIDS, which distributes indie films for family and art house audiences, has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the animated film “The Secret of Kells,” from Irish director Tomm Moore.

The film is set to receive an Academy-qualifying run from Dec. 4-10 at the AMC Burbank 8 in Los Angeles prompting reporters to ask is it another ‘Once’ the Irish film which one an Oscar for a song written and performed by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.

An official selection at the Berlin International Film Festival, “Kells” had its U.S. premiere at the New York International Children’s Film Festival and also was the first animated feature to win the Audience Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival. It also stole the show at Jameson Dublin Film Festival March 2009 as the first Animated film chosen to close the festival and going on to win the festival’s prestigious Audience Award.

The Secret of Kells will be released theatrically in the U.S. in March. The soundtrack album with music composed by Bruno Coulais and Kíla as well as
two back catalogue Kíla tracks is available in Ireland from Kíla Records.
