WGBH Presents 5th Annual, A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn with Brian O’Donovan March 20

Boston, MA – March 3 – Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year with a special concert of traditional and contemporary Irish music, song and dance. WGBH presents the fifth annual A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn with Brian O’Donovan on Saturday, March 20 at 8pm at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University, Cambridge.

A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn features familiar performances by some of the principal Celtic musicians who invite you to experience the Irish holiday in a way like never before.  This year’s show features the return of an iconic fiddler from Ireland, Frankie Gavin, with his band De Dannan. The show also features extraordinary guitarist Tony McManus along with an exciting young singer and harpist, Maeve Gilchrist.  Tickets are $20-$45 and available at the Sanders Theatre box-office or through www.wgbh.org/celtic

For the past four St. Patrick’s Day Concerts, WGBH’s Celtic Sojourn has introduced a wide range of both familiar and new musicians to delighted audiences eager to celebrate the holiday in true Irish style. This concert follows the format established for the burgeoning Christmas Celtic Sojourn series of concerts which over the past two years alone has played to over 19,000 people in Boston, Providence and Worcester.

A native of Clonakilty, West Cork, Ireland, O’Donovan has lived in the Boston area since 1980 and has served as an ambassador of Celtic music to the Boston Irish Diaspora and Celtic enthusiasts.  For over 25 years, he has hosted Celtic Sojourn, a show on Saturdays from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on WGBH radio that connects features traditional Celtic music and introduces new and contemporary Celtic music to listeners.

“St. Patrick’s Day – indeed the whole month of March – is a time for many in the Irish Diaspora to celebrate our roots,” said Brian O’Donovan.  “For many others, it is a time to explore the culture and history of Ireland.  What I love about producing A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn is that everyone is welcome to our party on St. Patrick’s Day!”
