The Adult & Continuing Education Office at NUI Galway are offering a new and exciting part-time Diploma in Irish Music Studies which will run from September 2010. The only course of its kind offered in Ireland, the diploma will be of interest to those with a love of Irish traditional music and culture.

“The Diploma in Irish Music Studies provides an interdisciplinary introduction to the ways in which music and literature have contributed to the creation of identity among Irish communities on the island of Ireland and beyond” highlights course coordinator, Tim Collins of the Centre for Irish Studies at NUI Galway.  “It will have broad appeal to all and no previous knowledge of the Irish language or of Irish music is necessary”, says Collins.

Topics covered over the two years include The Journey and Influence of Irish Music 1750-2006 (Year 1) and Negotiating Identity through Irish traditional music and dance (Year 2).

Applications for the programme are accepted from April. Prospective students are asked to contact the Adult & Continuing Education Office at tel: (091) 495845 or email: adulteducation@nuigalway.ie for further information or to request a brochure.
