Dervish make history as pub session web cast is beamed to over 30,000 people

as they released their Live Album & DVD “FROM STAGE TO STAGE”

The Sligo based traditional group celebrated their 21st birthday in style as the band played a dynamic pub session of traditional Irish music at the local Hargadons pub on Sligo’s O’ Connell Street, which was broadcast on livetrad.com to a global audience of over 30, 000 people.

The web cast which peaked at around 11 000 simultaneous online connections at one stage had message’s coming in from all parts of the world every minute while the trad super-group performed some of their best known material from their 10 album catalogue.
Dervish singer Cathy Jordan could not hide her excitement as she read requests from all over Ireland and far away place’s like Portland Oregon, San Francisco, Holland,Indonesia,Germany Austrialia to name just a very few as the charismatic singer joked and interacted with the on line and the local pub audiences. A few sample messages from abroad included:

Dervish band member Shane Mitchell said “It was a truly remarkable experience for us and one of the highest points of our career to date.There was a real sense of occasion throughout the evening and it was amazing to think that there were so many people looking on line.”
Dervish were joined by a number local musicians Philip Duffy, Declan Corelle,Oisin Mc Diarmuda,Damien Stenson and Teo Page for Santa Crus for the grand finale ending a truly historic cultural event.
Dervish who are known for their spellbinding stage shows went back to their Sligo Roots to launch their new 21 st anniversary album from “Stage to Stage”. This was so fitting as this is where the band grew up playing sessions of traditional Irish music in local bars where most of their material is drawn from.
