AWARDS FOR TRADITIONAL MUSIC VETERANS

Dinny McLaughlin, of Cockhill, Buncrana was awarded the International Fund for Ireland’s Intergenerational “Pass It on” Award in May. The award recognises the recipients passing on the music or dance tradition and Dinny has done both over the years. The strength of his work can be measured by the fact that there are now many dancing and fiddle teachers in Innishowen who got their early education from Dinny.

Mary Southwell, Board Member of the International Fund for Ireland, explained that, An Teach Bán is encouraging the development of cross-border and cross-community relationships and co-operation between representatives of communities in Derry and Donegal.
Dinny McLaughlin’s past pupils include: Altan’s, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Ciaran Tourish are playing all over the world and are musical ambassadors not only for the Northwest traditions but for Ireland.
