Sligo’s dynamic musical heritage will be celebrated over the October Bank Holiday weekend at SLIGO LIVE SESSIONS, Ireland’s premier roots music and arts festival brings leading Irish and International Artists to Sligo. SLIGO LIVE SESSIONS 2010 presents US legend MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER live in concert at The Radisson Hotel, Sligo on Saturday, 23rd October 2010. Tickets are on sale on Friday, 2nd July at the special early bird price of €25.00. Now in its sixth year, SLIGO LIVE has carved out a niche as one of the most relaxed and enjoyable music festivals in Ireland. Mary Chapin Carpenter is among the most talented singer/songwriters in America. She won 5 Grammys in Country Music categories, topped the country charts and sold over 12 million records without ever considering herself a country artist. She is a folk/country/rock singer, who if she came on the scene today would happily fall into the indie scene, but defying categorisation, her record company marketed her in the country mould. MCC is a powerful singer whose songs have a searing ring of truth. She hits the mark with her intelligent lyrics both on fast paced country rock songs alternating with slow introspective ballads.

Praise for Mary Chapin Carpenter ‘The Age of Miracles’.

“With The Age of Miracles, Carpenter’s talents remain timeless” – Billboard

“This country queen reached deep here and discovered her inner rock chic” - New York Post

“The singer-songwriter lives up to her Grammy pedigree on this first-rate set of country-folk tunes…” – PEOPLE Weekly

“…Chapin creates a musically textured and artfully composed collection filled with nuances that elude most songwriters.” – Cape Cod Times

“Carpenter is a master of the line that slips under the radar and pierces your heart” writes The Huffington Post. This album is direct, moving and inspirational and gives us a taste of what to expect at SLIGO LIVE SESSIONS on October Bank Holiday Weekend. Mary Chapin Carpenter is confirmed to perform live in concert at SLIGO LIVE SESSIONS 2010 on Saturday, 23rd October 2010 at The Radisson Hotel, Sligo. She will be joined by Special Guest TIFT MERRITT.

Songstress Tift Merritt is a North Carolina native, who also plays guitar and piano. She has built a unique and critically acclaimed body of work of sonic short stories and poignant performances. Her first record made Time Magazine’s and New Yorker’s Top Ten Lists and was called the best debut of the year in any genre by Associated Press. This was followed by ‘Tambourine’ a soul-rock album which was Grammy nominated for Country Album of the Year. It was also nominated for three Americana Music Awards. Tift’s ‘See You On The Moon’ released in 2009 is her most visceral work to date and finds her doing what she does best.
