The year 2010 marks 10 years since the untimely death of Irish multi-
instrumentalist, Johnny Keenan. It also marks the 9th year of the
Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival in Longford.

Highlighting the cultural connections of Ireland and America, the
festival presents the very best of Irish traditional, American
bluegrass and folk music. Taking place over four days and nights, the
festival consists of nightly seated concerts, educational workshops,
street & pub sessions, outdoor afternoon concerts and late night
festival club.

Highlights this year include: American singer/songwriter, Rodney
Crowell, Iris DeMent, American bluegrass outfit Mountain Heart, Irish
crooner, Brian Kennedy, Irish traditional groups Shaskeen (who
celebrate their 40th year anniversary this year), We Banjo 3
(featuring Enda Scahill, Leon Hunt & All-Ireland banjo players David
and Martin Howley), Gerry O’Connor and more!

Also an important highlight of the festival weekend is the extensive
workshop programme, which takes place Saturday and Sunday. There are
workshops covering both Irish and bluegrass banjo, guitar, fiddle,
vocals, singer/songwriter, and more. The classes cater to players and
students of all levels, and some tutors are available for one-on-one
lessons. Nightly concert tickets and weekend passes available at all
Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.ie or by contacting
the festival information line Tel: 087-2817825 (International:
+353-7-281-7825).
