SING THE CATS OFF THE PARK WITH A CASHEL SONG

www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOGgmA7CsY8

Cashel’s singer songwriter Billy O’Dwyer Bob’s “The Tipperary Girl” has recently been recorded by Daniel O’Donnell and the Donegal crooner brought it into the Top 50 Irish single charts in July.

The song was touched with tragedy as it was the last recording made by the band’s durmmer John Hickey who lost his battle with liver cancer last Easter.

Billy and the Sorryass Blues band will soon be appearing on Dublin’s  Balcony TV, which should give Billy and the Sorryass Blues Band a huge web profile. Balcony TV has clocked up over 10 million hits on its viral music service to date.

With the county team making the trip to the All Ireland Hurling Final on the first Sunday in September, we thought you might like to learn the words of this song and sing them at Croke Park, so we have printed them below.  If there’s a new and original Kilkenny song out there, get it in soon as an antidote to the Tipperary Girl.

The song has become something of a Youtube phenomenon with over 30,000 hits so far. If you are unsure about the melody, log onto Youtube and search for the Tipperary Girl and find Billy’s version, it’s the right thing to spur the lads onto victory over the cats.

TIPPERARY GIRL

Hair of gold, eyes of blue
Prettiest girl I ever knew
Skin as white as precious pearl
She was my Tipperary Girl.

She just chanced to pass me by
Pretty as a peach on a pumpkin pie
Fresh as a flower in full bloom
Sweet as a sunny summer’s afternoon.

I was smitten, got me good
Never thought that cupid could
Speared me down into my soul
Spun me ’round like a battered bowl.

Chorus
Hair of gold, eyes of blue
Prettiest girl I ever knew
Skin as white as precious pearl
She was my Tipperary Girl.

I was courting, pure romance
Asked her if she’d like to dance
Smiled at me when  she took my hand
Swung me ’til I couldn’t stand.

Now, she could dance and she could swing
Like a newborn lamb in spring
Up and down and to and fro
‘Round and ’round and ’round we go.

Chorus
Hair of gold, eyes of blue
Prettiest girl I ever knew
Skin as white as precious pearl
She was my Tipperary Girl.

I fell heads and over heels
Heart was jumping, jigs and reels
Twitched and twittered, ill at ease
Like a hound dog scratching fleas.

Now young and foolish, old and wise
Enter love with opened eyes
Treat her right from the start
Or that Tipperary girl will break your heart.

Chorus
Hair of gold, eyes of blue
Prettiest girl I ever knew
Skin as white as precious pearl
She was my Tipperary Girl.

Repeat Chorus
