Once again Sligo’s dynamic musical heritage was celebrated over the October Bank Holiday weekend at SLIGO LIVE SESSIONS, Ireland’s foremost International Roots Music Festival bringing leading Irish and International Artists to Sligo.  The Festival had an attendance of nearly 30,000 people at the 100 different concert, club, session, café culture, street entertainment and market events that made up the festival weekend and brought an estimated €4 million into Sligo over the 5 days.

Despite the current climate figures were up on last year, it has been a hugely successful Festival with tickets to nearly all concerts selling out and the buzz around town was electrifying. This Festival was a huge boost to Sligo’s Economy at a time when we need it and as important as a financial boost to the town it also lifted people’s spirits. There was a great buzz and a great atmosphere throughout the 5 days.  Dervish’s Official 21st Birthday was absolutely amazing.  The organisers said they have never seen a happier audience. People were truly enjoying themselves.  Dervish fans came from all over the world including Portland Oregan, Canada, Belgium, Holland and Norway to hear wonderful music.

Festival Organisers Shane Mitchell and Rory O’Connor have turned this event into one of Ireland’s fastest growing International Roots Music Festivals and have firmly put SLIGO LIVE on the International Festival map.  This year’s Sligo Live Festival which took place over the October Bank Holiday featured over 100 performances, over 300 performers, over 5 days, over 80% free, and included such artists as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lloyd Cole, The Stranglers, Republic of Loose, Dervish,  Jerry Fish & the Mudbug Club,  Tift Merritt, The Duke and The King, Heathers, Alan Kelly Quartet, Eddi Reader, Crooked Still, Kevin Burke, The Lost Brothers, Tom Baxter, Moya Brennan,Cormac De Barra, Triona Ni Dhomhnaill, Nathan Pilatzke, The Blanch, RSAG, SLIM PICKIN’S, Dead Cat Bounce, Award Winning Ceili Bands Fiddler of Dooney Competition, World Air Fiddle Championships, Fantastic Street Entertainment, Open-air Markets, and much more.

SLIGO LIVE SESSIONS is one of the top music and fun weekends of the year.  Artists mingled freely with the audiences and the friendliness in the festival club each evening was amazing.
