Dating back to the late 1700s, the exhibition will include images of classic sets of uilleann pipes made in Temple Bar and surrounding areas, along with images of makers and pipers of the area over a period of 300 years.

The first week of the display will include twice-daily performances – at 1:15pm and 5:15pm – of NPU’s highly acclaimed Piperlink show, an interactive lecture and musical performance.

Presented by Na Píobairí Uilleann in association with NGG and The Crafts Council of Ireland, Piperlink features eminent folklorist, Seán Donnelly, two leading exponents of the uilleann pipes Tommy Keane and Donnacha Dwyer, and is hosted by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, member of renowned band Danú and recipient of the prestigious TG4 Gradam Ceoil ‘Traditional Singer of the Year’, 2011.

Admission to both Capital Craft and Piperlink is free of charge.

PipeCraft

Capital Craft and Piperlink are part of Na Píobairí Uilleann’s PipeCraft initiative, 2011 aimed at preserving and promoting the manufacture of the Uilleann Pipes. NPU is currently fundraising to:

•      Save the craft of uilleann pipe-making by training new entrants to the craft and up-skilling existing makers

•      Ensure that uilleann pipes are readily available (currently in excess of €7million worth of instruments are on back order).

•      Establish a Museum for the uilleann pipes, the iconic Irish instrument.
