Maighread & Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill perform special Níos Deanaí concert in Bantry House

West Cork Music are delighted to announce that the two celebrated sisters of Irish traditional music, Maighread and Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, are in concert tomorrow night Friday 12th August in Bantry House. In a special, candle-lit Níos Deanaí performance at 10.30pm, they look set to make it a night to remember.

Maighread was a member of Donal Lunny’s Coolfin and has released a number of solo albums including the pivotal No Dowry and with her sister Tríona has been half of the quartet ‘T with the Maggies’. Tríona has performed with both Skara Brae and the Bothy Band. She recently released her latest album The Key’s Within.

This Concert of New Compositions for Traditional Musician features new works by award-winning Irish composer Dave Flynn, one of the founder members of the Dublin Guitar Quartet. Dave’s work has been performed by the New Juilliard Ensemble, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Breandán Begley and the ConTempo Quartet. Performances of his music have occurred at venues including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Dvorak Hall, Prague, Bridgewater Hall,Manchester and the National Concert Hall in Dublin. These four exceptional traditional musicians which include the celebrated fiddler CaoimhíN Ó Raghallaigh will premiere his work at this concert.

Another musician making his Bantry debut is Limerick accordion player Charlie Harris. He toured and recorded several albums with the band Shaskeen and in 2009 was awarded the prestigious Traditional Musician of the Year Award ( Gradam Ceoil)

Joining Clare fiddler Tony Linnane and English-born but Irish-bred bouzouki and fiddle player Mick Conneely will be Kevin Crawford. Kevin plays flute, tin whistle and bodhrán and was a member of Moving Cloud before he joined Lúnasa.

We are delighted to welcome Susan McKeown, Brian Conway and Brendan Dolan from the States to this year’s Masters. Susan is from Dublin but now based in New York where she is admired as an adventurous composer, vocalist and producer. Her work on the Klezmatics album Wonder Wheel : Lyrics by Woody Guthrie earned her a Grammy Award. For the Masters of Tradition, Susan will be premiering new arrangements of sean nós songs for guitar and Portugese guitarra, with new translations by poet Theo Dorgan.

The celebrated sean nós singer John Flanagan will open the concert. His profound respect for the tradition gives his unaccompanied singing a remarkable depth and sincerity.
