FOUR DAYS OF GREAT MUSIC

Once again and for the 33rd time the Irish festival in the Danish capital offers the best of Irish music. It takes place the first long weekend of November in the very center of Copenhagen.

Headlining are two of Ireland’s absolute top musicians for the last four decades - ANDY IRVINE & DONAL LUNNY. Saturday evening they take the stage in MUSIKSKOLEN, a fine concert hall nearby Øksnehallen and the PH Caféen, which is the HQ of the festival.

These two musicians were members of the iconic and insanely popular Irish super group PLANXTY, who back in the 1970es and 80es brought new and very exciting life to the traditional music of Ireland. Both have since then had great solo careers and also played with numerous other musicians along the way and enjoyed immense success. Donal Lunny has been the producer of a large number of albums by many Irish bands and soloists, who more than likely have been inspired by the music Planxty created. Many think that the band was one of the main reasons for the folk revival that happened at the time.

Copenhagen Irish Festival also looks forward to presenting the young and incredibly talented bands Full Set, Ioscaid and International Shamrocks.

The festival starts in the PH Caféen on Thursday evening. Friday and Saturday the main concerts take place in MUSIKSKOLEN just a few hundred yards from the café. The festival also offers sessions and a big ceili on Sunday.
