Applications for Meitheal Summer School 2012 before March 16th!

Meitheal 2012 will run from July 16th to 20th in Villiers School, Limerick.  A stellar cohort of tutors is being lined up, many of them from overseas. Reaction to Meitheal 2011 was extremely positive and many students highlight the Finale Concert, and the appearance at the National Concert Hall as being unforgettable experiences.

The line-up of tutors so far:

Gerry O Connor – fiddle
Alan Doherty – flute
Christy Leahy – box
Cillian Doheny – banjo
Edel Fox – concertina
Tadhg Ó Meachair – piano accordeon
Fionnuala Rooney – harp
Ryan Murphy – pipes & flute

Several of last year’s award winners have already played at the events for which they were selected.    Jason McGuinness was awarded a place on the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann tour of Ireland.  Meanwhile, Clara Mannion Danny Collins, Rebecca McCarthy Kent and Gearoid Curtin are preparing for their festival gigs in the Spring.  They have been chosen to appear at Corofin Trad Fest, Nyah Fest, and Sligo Feis Ceoil all in Feb/March.

Several scholarships to Meitheal are available, including to prizewinners in several categories at Fleádh Ceoil na hÉireann.
This year, certain county councils are also offering bursaries to Meitheal which cover a sizeable proportion of the fees.
