Milwaukee Irish Fest Presents Irish Fest Family Day in the Village

St. Patrick’s Day event will introduce public to year-round activities

Milwaukee Irish Fest presents Irish Fest Family Day in the Village, a free day of Irish-themed activities centered around St. Patrick’s Day. The event will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Irish Fest Center in the Village of  Wauwatosa. The event will introduce the general public to year-round, cultural initiatives offered at Milwaukee Irish Fest, while hosting a day of festive traditions.

“The Milwaukee Irish Fest organization is passionately committed to igniting a love of Irish culture in all people throughout the year,” said Jane Anderson, executive director of Milwaukee Irish Fest. “This event welcomes you to explore some of the year-round programming offered by Milwaukee Irish Fest on a day when everybody is Irish.”

Families can enjoy an Irish breakfast of oatmeal, potatoes, eggs and bacon beginning at 8 a.m. at the Chancery Family Pub, located at 7613 W. State Street in Wauwatosa, Wis. The Chancery will also offer a special lunch and dinner menu that includes corned beef sandwiches. Diners will enjoy Irish music and kids will be given coloring pages to try their hand at Irish artwork.

A story time of Irish children’s books will be held throughout the day at The Little Read Book Store, located next door to the Chancery at 7603 W. State Street. Meanwhile, The Red Store, located nearby at 7720 W. Harwood Avenue, will entertain children with special activities throughout the day.

Activities at the Irish Fest Center, located at 1532 Wauwatosa Avenue in Milwaukee, Wis. will begin at 9 a.m. Entertainment includes Irish dancers from the Cashel Dennehy School of Irish Dance and live music by local Irish band, Tallymoore. Crafts and workshops available to participate in include: a lesson on native Irish instruments hosted by the Irish Fest School of Music, weaving and lace making demonstrations, crafts for kids and an opportunity for participants to learn their name in Irish.

Guests will enjoy coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies throughout the day at the Irish Fest Center. They will also have a special opportunity to hear harpist Dorothy Walsh from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tours of the Irish Fest Center and Ward Irish Music Archives – home to the largest public collection of Irish and Irish American music in America – will take place throughout the day.
