Multi-Instrumentalist & Composer Tim Edey wins BBC Radio Two Folk Awards Musician of the Year!

An evening in Manchester at Salford’s Media Village for this year’s BBC folk awards, has certainly left Tim Edey with a smile on his face! The Multi-instrumentalist and Composer, being no stranger to the worldwide folk music scene over these past 15 years, picked up the coveted award for “Musician of the Year”

Tim :- “I was absolutely honoured and delighted to have been asked to perform and attend the 2012 BBC FOLK AWARDS, having been a big fan of Mike Harding for years, I was utterly shocked to receive the award for “Musician of the Year” and i’m still very much in shock! Also being awarded Best Duo was fantastic! It was a real pleasure attending and meeting so many amazing stars of world folk music scene past & present.”

Tim made his first solo album at the age of 17 with legendary Australian/Irish guitarist/producer Steve Cooney! Firstly a Piano and Box player, Tim was taken to a Begley and Cooney concert by his dad, and a week later started learning to play the Guitar!  “I was obsessed!” says Tim  “Both Steve & Seamus have taught me so much about playing music, and i am very grateful to them both, along with so many others in the music scene who have had massive influence throughout my life so far”

People may know Tim from his solo work, with tracks such as Little Bird written for Sharon Shannon featuring regularly on BBC Radio Programmes; from tours with his own band, Irish Artists such as Seamus Begley, Brendan Power, Sharon Shannon Big Band, or from appearing at numerous “Gordon Duncan Memorial Concert’s”
Tim is very much in demand by the cream of the popular folk music scene at present. Fresh from working on Christy Moore’s latest album release “Folk Tale” and soon to be on tour this June with the world renowned band “The Chieftains”
