Christy Moore and Ryan Sheridan along with judges Fiachna Ó Braonáin of the Hothouse Flowers and RTÉ 2XM’s Jacqui Carroll showed their support for the competition during the launch of the RAAP bursary on June 7th. The bursary will see €24,500 in prize money awarded to the winners along with guaranteed air play on prime time radio across RTÉ’s four national FM stations: RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ lyric fm and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

The prize find is divided into four main categories, with €5,000 up for garbs in each, and the good news is one of those categories is for traditional music. The remaining money will go to the runners–up, who will each receive €500.

The RAAP | RTÉ Breakthrough Bursary 2012 shortlist will be unveiled across RTÉ Radio’s four FM stations on Monday 17th, Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th September. Each short–listed entry will be given the opportunity to perform live on a flagship radio programme across one of four radio stations: RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ lyric fm or RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. Along with receiving the bursary, the winners’ performances will be showcased at the RAAP | RTÉ Breakthrough Bursary concert hosted by RTÉ Radio 1 presenter John Creedon.

The concert will be broadcast live on RTÉ Radio 1 on Thursday September 20th at 8.30pm.
