Tuam Trad Festival is delighted to be able to announce that the 3rd Annual Trad Festival will be taking place from Friday 14th – Sunday 16th September, 2012.

The World famous fiddle player, Frankie Gavin will kick–start the festival on Friday evening when he will officially open the Festival in the Corralea Court Hotel at 7.30pm with Macalla (Siansa Prize Winners 2012). Following the launch a concert will be held in the marquee featuring Frankie Gavin and De Dannan, who will be supported on the night by our own Ann Kirrane, whose CD One Small Star was launched earlier this year and has received great reviews.

The unique once a year event which is now firmly established as amongst one of the best small festivals in Ireland attracting people from all over the world to spend a weekend in Tuam both to play with and to gain expertise from some of the finest musicians in the country. This years event will feature workshops and tutors as follows: Fiddle, Aine McGrath Droney, Masterclass, Eileen O’Brien, Tin Whistle, Anita Broderick, Masterclass, Noreen Gavin O’Sullivan. Accordion, PJ Hernon. Flute, John Wynne. Banjo, Cillian Donnehy. Uilleann Pipes, Mick Vignoles, Concertina, Jack Talty, Bodhrán, Mick Vignoles, Sean Nós Dancing, Emma O’Sullivan and Traditional Singing, Pauline Hanly.

This year the festival will host two Young Traditional Musicians’ awards at under 16 years and under 23 years details of which can be downloaded from the following website located at www.tuamtradfestival.com. The finals will then be held in Tuam on Saturday 15th during the festival.

This year the festival also will bestow an hall of fame award which celebrates a life long achievement in Irish Music. And the recipient of the award will be honoured during the festival. Local Artist, Nuala B Higgins will exhibit her works at Eason’s Café for the duration of the weekend.

This two day event will also feature The Shelly River Céilí Band, Moxie, Donal Mc Cague, Chris Droney, Patsy Hanly, Neillidh Mulligan, Gerry Hanley, Dick Hogan, Pat Sweeney, Francis Droney, Members of Rí Ra among many other renowned local and visiting musicians.
Also well as concerts, busking competitions, pub sessions, recitals, barn dance and a Monster Céilí with The Annaly Céilí Band at the Ard Ri Hotel on Saturday night 15th September.
