Music Network today announced an exciting line-up of talented Irish and international artists for a free concert as part of Culture Night 2012. Dublin audiences will have the chance to experience the very best in traditional Irish music and jazz in the intimate surrounds of The Coach House, in Dublin Castle on Friday 21th September. Music Network is funded by the Arts Council.

First up at 8pm is Emer Mayock (flute/whistles/fiddle/pipes) with Nell Ní Chróinín (voice) and special guests. Hailing from Mayo, musician Emer Mayock is a talented multi-instrumentalist and composer who has worked with everyone from traditional musicians like Donal Lunny and Paddy Glackin, to The Irish Chamber Choir, Italian baroque ensemble Il Giardino Armonico, and the Grammy nominated Afro Celt Soundsystem. She is joined by sean nós singer Nell Ní Chróinín from the Múscraí Gaeltacht of northwest Cork, who became the youngest ever recipient of the TG4 Singer of the Year award in 2012. They will be joined on the night by some very special guests, to be announced.

Back by popular demand at 9 pm is the exciting instrumental group Gato Azul, who brought the house down at last year’s Culture Night. Featuring Francesco Turrisi (accordion & percussion), Robbie Harris (bodhrán), Michael Coady (double bass) and Lucas Gonzales (guitar), the group performs music that ranges from Brazil to Bulgaria - via the Mediterranean - using jazz improvisation as a unifying element.  Gato Azul is the latest project from the industrious Italian, Francesco Turrisi, who has built a reputation as an accordionist and frame drummer par excellence to match his well-documented piano capabilities. Joining him are percussionist Robbie Harris, whose bodhrán sounds remarkably at home in this rhythmic terrain, the mighty jazz double bass of Michael Coady, and Lucas Gonzalez, an exceptional Argentinian guitarist now resident in Dublin, who brings authenticity and a flamencoesque brio to the table.

Free, but limited capacity (get there early or call Tel. 01 671 9429 to book a ticket). Further details at www.musicnetwork.ie.
