Celebrating the enduring legacy of Seamus Ennis
The Ace & Deuce of Piping Concert at Liberty Hall 2012

Na Píobairí Uilleann presents The Ace & Deuce of Piping Concert - A night of traditional Irish music at Liberty Hall, Dublin. Sun Oct. 7, 2012

FORMER Bothy Band fiddler and composer Tommy Peoples, one of Ireland’s most celebrated musicians, will headline this year’s annual Ace and Deuce of Piping Concert in Liberty Hall.

Peoples’ highly unique style of fiddle-playing has influenced a generation of musicians and this is a wonderful opportunity for his many devotees to hear him perform in this unique concert setting.

The ‘Ace and Deuce ‘ is the country’s premier annual performance of traditional music and the legendary Peoples will be joined in concert by outstanding Belfast flute player Harry Bradley, dancer Seosamh Ó Neachtain, Roscommon fiddle and flute duet Paddy Ryan and Frank Jordan, uilleann piper Pat Mitchell, sean-nós singer Áine Uí Cheallaigh and the Wexford Piping Quartet featuring uilleann pipers Mark Redmond, Brendan Wickham, Ned Wall and Séamus Mac Mathúna.

One of the themes running through this year’s concert is a celebration of the profound and enduring influence of Dublin uilleann piper, singer and collector Seamus Ennis, who died on October 5, 30 years ago.

As a tribute to the great master, the concert will be presented by Seamus’ son, singer Chris Ennis.
Piper Pat Mitchell, a leading researcher into the repertoires and styles of the great piping masters, published a comprehensive collection of Ennis’ music in 2005 while virtuoso performer Harry Bradley, also an accomplished uilleann piper, cites Ennis as one of his primary influences and continuing inspirations.

Ennis’ music resonates through Áine Uí Cheallaigh’s singing which is firmly situated in the Rinn Gaeltacht, home place of her mother and where she herself was drawn from her native Belfast.
