This Double CD comprises a set of recordings of genuine Irish traditional music dating from the late 1960’s which were published on LP and tape by Gael Linn, in association with Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann.

Seoda Ceoil 1 – The artists featured are Willie Clancy (pipes and tin–whistle), John Kelly (fiddle and concertina) and Seán Ó Conaire, sean nós singer. When first released, the album boasted a total of 29 items, 25 of which had not been previously recorded and a 3.75 speed tape which extended to 450 ft.! The recordings include 14 reels, 7 double jigs, 2 single jigs, 2 slip jigs, 1 fling, 1 slow air, and 2 songs.

Seoda Ceoil 2 – The artists featured are Dubliners, Séamus Ennis (pipes) and Seán Keane (fiddle),Connemara, sean nós singer Seosamh Ó hÉanaí (Joe Heaney), and Westmeath box player, John Joe Gannon whose selection of tunes provides a welcome glimpse into the musical heritage of the county. Seosamh Ó hÉanaí’s selection of songs from Connemara are a powerful testament to his reputation as one of the finest singers in the tradition. Seamus Ennis and Seán Keane are in top form in this very traditional recording.

The two CDs give us a glimpse of the pure style of traditional music as played by the masters in 1968–9. County, local, and individual styles and tunes are given pride of place. Unavailable for many years, the recordings have been digitally re–mastered and are now presented in CD format for the first time. (The two volumes were part of a larger project which envisaged a total of eight volumes but only these two were ever produced.) ‘This collection is a must for everyone interested in Irish traditional music.’
