Féile Cheoil Chlochán Bhréanainn/Cloghane Brandon Music Festival

An area long noted for its beauty and hospitality, the people of Cloghane & Brandon, Co. Kerry invite you to their first annual Music Festival from July 5th – 7th. Mick Hanly will open the Festival on Friday 5th at 7.30pm in Halla Le Chéile, Brandon. Following that will be music sessions in local pubs – Ned Gibbons & Friends in O’Connor’s and Turf in O’Donnell’s.
On Saturday, music & dance workshops will be held by musicians Dessie Kelliher, Gary O’Brien, Damien Mullane, Máire Begley, Samantha Morris and Tríona Mangan. The workshops will run from 11am – 3:30pm, with a showcase afterwards. Spaces are limited therefore booking is essential.

An Oral History exhibition will be held from 12noon – 6pm in An Tinteán Ceoil, with photos and interviews. An afternoon of poetry and music will follow from Micheál O Ruairc, Maidhc Dainín Ó Sé, Máire Begley and local musicians from 3:30pm. At 7.30pm a Céilí Mór will take place in Halla Le Chéile with music from Paddy O’ Neill and John McMahon. Music afterwards in O’Connor’s pub, with Dessie, Gary & Damian and Oracle in O’Donnell’s. On Sunday Sean Keane will perform at 7:30pm in Halla Le Chéile. Music sessions afterwards in local pubs with Ned Gibbons & Friends in O’Connor’s and Bochtán in O’Donnell’s. A bus will be available from Dingle and Castlegregory on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights – booking essential.

Ceardlanna Cheoil/Music workshops:
Dessie Kelliher – Banjo/Mandolin: From Castlegregory, Dessie has played locally for many years and now lives in Co. Clare.  He has featured on countless recordings and toured with many bands and shows. In 2004, he released his debut CD entitled Banjoed at the age of 19.

Damien Mullane – Cairdín/Accordion: Damien is one of the leading accordionists in Irish music. With several All–Ireland titles and formally a member of Frankie Gavins, De Dannan, Damien is quite a sought after player. Damien released his debut solo CD at the Fleadh Cheoil 2012 entitled 13.

Gary O’Brien – Giotár/Guitar: Gary is from Castlegregory and is one of the leading exponents of traditional style guitar playing in the country today. Having played with countless shows/bands and featuring on many leading recordings, Gary enjoys playing locally in Dingle, Co. Kerry.

Samantha Morris – Feadóg Stáin/Tin Whistle: Samantha resides in Ennis, Co. Clare. Having grown up in the Manchester Irish music scene which is rich with some of the leading Irish musicians in the world today, most notably Michael McGoldrick of the Mark Knofer band. She has been a permanent fixture on the session trail in Ennis which is notably the leading town for traditional music in Ireland. Sam prides herself in her teaching methods which give clarity and simplified methods to the student which leads to a maximum success rate.

Máire Begley – Pianó cairdín/Piano accordion: Máire is a gifted singer & musician who performs every week in An Tinteán Cheoil in Cloghane, Co. Kerry. Máire comes from the musical Begley family in West Kerry and enjoys imparting her skills.

Tríona Mangan – rince sean nós/sean nós dancing: From Killarney, Tríona Mangan is renowned the length and breadth of Ireland for her dancing prowess. Having started dancing at the age of four when her grandfather taught her the basics of set dancing, Tríona is currently teaching dancing full–time. She has accumulated an impressive array of dancing titles, winning six céilí and five set dancing titles in Scór sinsir, five set and one céilí in Fleadh Cheol na hÉireann as well as finding the time to coach junior teams to win three Scór na nÓg titles and seven Fleadh titles. In 2003, she sat her T.C.R.G exams with An Coimisiún le Rince Gaelacha and is currently busy teaching all three forms of Irish dance, Sean Nós, step and set.
