October 11th – 13th marks the 7th Scoil Cheoil na Botha traditional weekend in Scotstown, Co. Monaghan. Building on the success of the preceeding Scoil Cheoil na Botha weekends and reflecting an upturn in traditional music fortunes in the county, Scotstown will once again host some of the finest traditional music talent.

To coincide with the national Gathering festival, this year’s festival showcases many of the region’s finest traditional musicians. Among the artists confirmed for this year’s event are TG4 Young Musician of the Year 2013, Donal McCague, former All–Ireland senior fiddle champion, Laura Beagon and former All–Ireland senior button accordion champion, Darren Breslin. In addition, the festival welcomes one of the region’s finest harpers Fionnuala Rooney, concertina player Rona Dinkin, traditional singer Monica Beagon Treanor and a member of its musical diaspora, piano accordionist Gerry Murray. Continuing the tradition of bringing the finest quality musicians to the area for music workshops, this year will also feature two of Ireland’s finest young musicians Stevie Dunne (banjo) and Tommy Fitzharris (flute).

Workshops will be held in fiddle, flute, button accordion, piano accordion, concertina, harp, singing and banjo.
