The 15th Gathering Traditional Festival returns on February 19th – 24th, 2014 in the INEC and Gleneagle Hotel with concerts, ceilís, workshops and sessions.

The Schools Outreach Programme is one of the most popular elements of The Gathering Festival and returns for the 15th anniversary year. Every year a group of musicians visit a selection of national schools in the Killarney area over four days.

The students and teachers are treated to a feast of toe tapping tunes by local musicians and dancers which provide them with a unique insight into their culture and heritage in a fun and interactive way.

Also returning for to the Gathering for 2014 is the Session on the Lakes. This is one of the festival highlights and features traditional singers, musicians and dancers performing on the Pride of the Lakes waterbus with the fantastic backdrop of the lakes and mountains of Killarney. Pre-booking is essential and this is an experience not to be missed – (subject to weather)

The 3rd gathering showcase series in association with Culture Ireland makes a very welcome return in 2014. The showcase in association with Culture Ireland gives bands and solo performers the opportunity to perform in front of some of the directors of key musical festivals in Europe. This is a fantastic opportunity and previous year’s showcases have been hugely successful with acts being booked for some fantastic opportunities overseas. To book a place on this year’s showcase, please contact John O’Shea on: email: johngathering@hotmail.com.

As well as the excellent dance workshops The Gathering Festival plays host to numerous music workshops throughout the Saturday of the festival. These workshops have been a fixture at The Gathering Festival for many years, and help players improve their skills with some of the best tutors around.

Instruments being taught are the Fiddle, Flute plus Tin Whistle, Concertina and Accordion.
Lessons are not for beginners and can be booked on the day or in advance with the INEC Box Office on Tel: 064 66 71555.
