NYAH Traditional Irish Music Festival

There’s going to be good ceol agus craic in Cavan for the NYAH Traditional Irish music festival. The NYAH Festival (www.thisiscavan.ie) takes place in February & March throughout Co. Cavan. It is organized by Martin Donohoe, the wonderful rascal and box player who has done much to put Cavan back on the musical map.

Can you believe that the NYAH Irish music festival is 11 years old this year?

After successfully hosting three All Ireland Fleadhanna, County Cavan has established itself as one of the centres of the Irish traditional music scene. It has become renowned for hosting traditional Irish family–friendly concerts, workshops, cross– border, cross–community projects, late sessions, acoustic jams, Sean nós and late night cabarets. This year the NYAH festival will take place over two months – February and March with the main big birthday bash weekend from March 15th–17th in the Farnham Arms Hotel Cavan. There are also pilgrimages out to Mullaghboy Lodge, Swanlinbar, Kilnaleck, Castle Saunderson Church, Farrell’s Ballinalee and to Planxty Bar, Mohill, Co. Leitrim throughout the months.

Performances include: Seán Ó Se from West Cork, Cathal Lynch, Martin Hayes, Martin Connolly, Dennis Cahill, Charlie McGettigan, Colm Gannon, Gary Lynch, John O’Sullivan, Dermot McLaughlin, John Joe Higgins, Willie Drennan, Mickey Mc Donnell, Philip Clarke, Noel Sweeney, Gerry Gorman, Martin Gaffney, Johnny King, Larry Mc Quaid, Jordan Hill, NYAH Og group, County Choir under direction of Blánaid Murphy, Michael Curran, Sandra Joyce, Niall Keegan, the Mullaghboy accordion band, Mick Gormley, Seamus the singer, Eamonn Maguire, Kavan & Savannah Donohoe, Seamus Fay, Christopher Maguire, Eamonn Curran. There is a Double CD Launch Event on Saturday March 15th – Double CD Launch, Brenda McCann, Fiddle & Annette Owen’s Accordion, Brian McGrath, Piano/banjo. The Fly by Night CD & Noel Battle Mouth–organ & All Ireland 2013 Concertina champion Róisín Broderick with their CD Up and About in the morning are joined by Antoin Mc Gabhann, Darren Maloney, Darren Breslin, Fintan McManus, Martin Murphy & Meitheal Summer Schools winners, Cairenn Keegan, Olive O’Mahony in the Town Hall Cavan.

The NYAH Festival has received financial support under Festivals and Events Scheme from the Arts Council, Farnham Arms Hotel, European Union’s PEACE III Programme, managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the County Cavan PEACE III Peace and Reconciliation Partnership, FM recording studios Belturbet, Cavan County Council Arts Office, Mc Quaids Opticians, Shannonside Northern Sound Radio, Cavan County Museum Ballyjamesduff, Bygone-Memories–HD–Event–Videography, Backyard Arts Centre, Joe Farrell, Planxty Bar, Lynch Print Cavan, Donal Keogan Imperial, Ciaran Kelly CKP Photography, Mc Mahons Bar, Multisound & Cavan Tourism.
