Gradam Ceoil TG4 2014 raises the rafters at the University Concert Hall in Limerick

The prestigious Gradam Ceoil TG4 2014 (TG4 Traditional Music Awards) takes place in the University Concert Hall in Limerick this Saturday, 12th April at 7.45pm where this year’s recipients will be presented with their  awards at a gala event.

The night will showcase some of the best of Irish traditional musicians performing with the recipients who include the main Gradam Ceoil winner, flute-player Harry Bradley (Musician of the Year).  Others being honoured this year include the Clare concertina veteran  Chris Droney (Hall of Fame), Connemara sean-nós singer Nan Tom Taimín de Búrca (Singer of the Year), Mick O’Brien, his daughter Aoife and Emer Mayock (Musical Collaboration) and Dr Mick Maloney who will be returning from the USA to his native city of Limerick  to collect the Special Achievement Award.   Sliabh Luachra accordion player  Bryan O’Leary  completes the roll of honour as he collects his Young Musician award.  (Full biographies of all recipients at http://www.gradam.ie/index.php/gradam-ceoil-tg4-2/

The concert will co-presented by the well known West Kerry musician Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and TG4’s own Páidí Ó Lionáird.  The recipients will be joined on stage by family and friends including Cherish the Ladies, Michelle, Louise & Mick Mulcahy, Davy Maguire, Tara Diamond, Colm Guilfoyle, Gearóid Ó Duinnín, Ann Droney, Gary Ó Briain and Antóin Mac Gabhann.
An independent panel of adjudicators selects recipients of the TG4 Gradam Ceoil each year.  Recipients are presented with a specially-commissioned piece by sculptor John Coll as well as a cheque.
TG4 Director General Pól Ó Gallchóir says that the Gradam Ceoil honours major figures in Irish traditional music during their lifetime.  “We are delighted to organise, sponsor and broadcast this unique and well-deserved recognition for extraordinary and talented artists who bring beauty to our lives with their music and who are a source of pride to us all,” he said.

The Gala Concert will be broadcast on TG4 Easter Sunday, 20 April at 9.30pm
