Described as the Pied Piper of traditional Music, Michael McGoldrick and his quartet will hit the stage at SLIGO LIVE bursting with enthusiasm and sparks will fly as they set fire to reels and jigs.  They play with skill, knowledge and affection eking out the emotion from their instruments, and this will be one special musical experience not to be missed.   SLIGO LIVE is delighted to announce Michael Mc Goldrick Quartet with Dezi Donnelly, Ed Boyd and John Joe Kelly live in concert on Saturday, 25th October 2014 @ Hawk’s Well Theatre. Reserved seating €18.00. Tickets are available from www.sligolive.ie or from Ticketmaster or the Hawk’s Well Box Office (Tel. 071 916 1518).

These four innovative musicians need little introduction but their coming together to play concerts these days is a rare and magical thing. A dynamic and thriving Manchester-Irish traditional music scene nurtured the talents of childhood friends, Michael (flute and pipes), Dezi (fiddle) and John Joe (bodhrán). They began to make a name for themselves while still in school and have been at the fore-font of the tradition ever since. Ed Boyd is an immense guitarist and their long time musical collaborator.

For the past two years, McGoldrick has been to touring as a member of Mark Knopfler’s band; and all four members have individually played and recorded with a whole host of bands including; Capercaillie, Toss the Feathers, Lunasa, Flook, Sharon Shannon, Kate Rusby, Transatlantic Sessions, and Tim O’Brien. Their solo and colabrative albums have been widely acclaimed and they have been honoured at the BBC Folk Awards many times. They have earned reputations for redefining traditional music over the past two decades.

Under 18’s can avail of half-price tickets for this and selected other Sligo Live shows in a Music Generation Sligo initiative. Music Generation is Ireland’s National Music Education Programme, helping children and young people access music education in their own locality.
