Rathmines’ traditional music festival rocks up for another year

The inaugural Rathmines Tradfest 2014 took place over four nights from Thursday 11 September to Sunday 14 September and was by any measure a stomping successful session!

It’s tagline of ‘4 great nights in 4 great pubs’ both promised and subsequently delivered the mother of all music bar crawls in this lively and increasingly bohemian south Dublin village.

Organizer and participant, Brian O’Meara, commented:

“We all had a great few days and such an event was long overdue. Next year promises to be even bigger and the Rathmines Tradfest could establish itself fairly quickly as a prominent fixture in Dublin’s social and cultural calendar.”

He added, “The profile of the event was helped by it coinciding with the Guinness Amplify gig series and we had Irish Music Magazine as media sponsor. In addition to that, the goodwill of local businesses and many online events websites was tremendous.”

‘Trad’ music takes a contemporary leap back to the future…

The range of acts performing at the festival* was nothing if not eclectic, ranging from truly traditional Irish music sessions to Americana-tinged folk styles, barn-storming rebel songs and even a couple of bands who reinterpreted contemporary pop/rock with trad instrumental accompaniment.

Some of the live acts who performed included: All Folked Up, Trad Rocks, Liam Kelly, Sugan, Rebel Hearts, Arís Arún, Kicking Bird, Jem Mitchell, Na Fianna, Lasair and The Buggy Boys.

The participating venues were: Rody Bolands, Slatterys, Mother Reillys and Graces.
