15th Skerries Traditional Music Weekend

This year the 15th Skerries Traditional Music Weekend will take place from 13th - 15th of May in the picturesque seaside town of Skerries situated in the North Fingal region of County Dublin.

In 2016 Skerries will play host to a weekend packed with music, song and dance where leading artists will travel to Skerries and join with locals and visitors in a celebration of our unique Irish heritage. A great selection of top class individual players will be participating throughout the weekend on many levels including formal concerts, tutoring and pub sessions. Artists such as Mary Bergin, Con ‘Fada’ Ó Drisceoil, Mick Conneely, Gráinne Hambly, Mick O’Brien, Martin Quinn, Mairéad Casey, Marcus Maloney, to mention but a few!

On Friday 13th May, local musician James O’Mahony will lead the way to some of the local schools accompanied by a team of musicians to perform and interact with the primary school students.  Skerries Traditional Music Weekend is proud to be involved in this Outreach Programme which over the years has nurtured a keen interest in traditional music among the younger members of the local community

Beoga will perform on Friday night at 8pm in The Little Theatre venue.   Early booking is advised.   Tickets are available now by contacting a member of our Committee on 087 6528643.

There are great choices for the playing punter this year as the number of sessions has been extended. Some of Irelands’ top exponents of traditional music will showcase their talents in a more informal and natural setting. Players are welcome to join in the many sessions during the weekend which will also include a Slow Session for Adults and a Junior Session aimed at providing an opportunity for young musicians to play together and sample the session atmosphere.

There is a treat in store on Saturday evening at Skerries Mills.   Joe O’Leary, Galway fiddler, in Skerries an illustrated presentation by Máire O’Keeffe , starting at 7.00pm Tickets €5.
Skerries Traditional Music Weekend are delighted to welcome Ciaran Tourish & Kevin Doherty on Saturday evening 14th May    Ciaran Tourish (Altan) and Kevin Doherty (4 Men & a Dog) will be performing at Rockabill at 8.00pm on Saturday night. Early booking is advised by contacting Rockabill Restaurant at 01 8495001 as the numbers admitted to this gathering will be limited.

Music and Dancing workshops will take place on Saturday. This year there is a variety of instruments to choose from including the introduction of ‘Harp’ as well as the continuation of the ‘special beginner Tin Whistle class’ for Adults.   This initiative is limited to 10 spaces only and a tin whistle will be provided for each student.    The Dancing workshop will cover both Sean Nós and Sets

Music on the Street’ will take place on Saturday afternoon at Floraville Park.

The Kilfenora Céilí Band   This much anticipated event will be held on Saturday night at 9.00pm in Skerries Community Centre.   Listeners very welcome – Bring a friend!

Saturday afternoon and evening sessions continue to draw in the crowds and the Singing Session at 9.30pm with MC Con Fada Ó Drisceoil and special guests.

The very popular Sunday morning recital in Skerries Mills is hosted by Mary Bergin who leads her fellow tutors in an early morning tune.

Skerries Trad Music Weekend continues to go from strength to strength and this year promises to attract many more revelers from Ireland and abroad, so make sure you join us in May for a chilled weekend of great music, great craic and a great vibe.
