We sometimes forget the extraordinary pool of talented musicians Ireland produces and it’s not until our artists appear as guest musicians with international artists that we sit up and pay attention.

MAIRTIN O’CONNOR, CATHAL HAYDEN and SEAMIE O’DOWD are prime examples.
Button accordion master Mairtin O’Connor’s infectious and irresistible style keeps him constantly in demand both with live concerts and as a guest musician on recordings by many International artists including Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello, Mark Knopfler, Tanita Tikaram, Townes Van Zandt, The Chieftains, The Dubliners, Davy Spillane, Maire Brennan, The Waterboys…..   He has performed with the RTE Concert Orchestra on Bill Whelan’s Seville Suite and in 1995 he played a major role in the original ‘Riverdance’.  He has also worked on Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ featuring Ben Kingsley.   His list of achievements are long and varied.   His technical brilliance and flamboyant style mark him out as a top echelon player.

Cathal Hayden is one of Ireland’s foremost fiddle players and his solo banjo performances are quite simply show-stopping.  A multiple All-Ireland Champion and Fiddler of Dooney winner, he has achieved world-wide recognition as one of the founder members of Four Men and a Dog.  He has released several critically acclaimed albums and performed worldwide.
And he has just released his long-awaited solo banjo album ‘Hooked on Banjo’ to critical acclaim.  “Hooked on Banjo” is a force to be reckoned with, albeit a genteel one.  Hayden’s ability to delve deep beneath the skin of a tune is writ large….. The haughty, high-stepping Medina, in all its baroque grandeur is a delight.  Hayden’s co-written (with Seán Og Graham) Gortavale Rock is a mathematician’s dream: complex and elegant in equal measure.”  The Irish Times

One of Ireland’s finest and respected musicians, Seamie O’Dowd’s musical career has seen him progress through the ranks of the Sligo traditional Irish, blues, folk and rock scenes to being a globetrotting, experienced and much sought after musician, singer and producer. As modest as he is talented, he is a multi-instrumentalist, noted for playing the fiddle, mandolin, bodhran, harmonica and concertina.   It was through guitar that he developed his interest in rock and blues.  He has performed with Christy Moore, Dervish, The Unwanted, Tommy Emmanuel, Kieran Ouinn, and Liam O’Flynn, to name but a few.

Mairtin O’Connor, Cathal Hayden and Seamie O’Dowd have built solid reputations as masters with astounding skill, diversity and virtuosity.   Together they produce a vibrant and musically charged experience that redefines one’s concept of brilliance, verging on perfection.    Don’t miss this illustrious trio in what promises to be an atmospheric and unforgettable show, drawing on an eclectic mix of the old and new where traditional and contemporary tunes and songs meet each of their diverse influences and unique compositional voices.

They will be joined by Special Guests RANT (4 fantastic female fiddlers):   Nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards RANT is the meeting of 4 of Scotland’s finest fiddle players, Bethany Reid, Jenna Reid, Sarah-Jane Summers and Lauren MacColl. Hailing from the Shetland Islands and the Highlands, this is a celebration of the instrument they all have a passion for. 4 fiddles: one beautiful sound!   Since the release of their debut album ‘RANT’ in 2013 which won them critical acclaim and a Herald Angel Award for outstanding performance across all the Edinburgh Festivals, the band have made major festival and concert appearances across the UK and Scandinavia.   2016 sees the release of ‘REVERIE’ the much anticipated second album from RANT, firmly establishing them as a huge musical force and a strong, raw, yet vibrant sound on the folk scene.
