TG4 to celebrate their 20th birthday with a special Oíche Shamhna live extravaganza!

Oíche Shamhna 2016 looks set to deliver one of the most spectacular celebrations with the live broadcast of TG4’s twentieth birthday party. TG4XX Beo will broadcast live from 9.30pm to 11.30pm on the channel.

Eleanor Shanley’s 2016 presented a busy year from the off, especially so on the back of her successful “Forever Young” album launch last autumn.  Spring was spent touring Canada with De Danann, and some very special Irish live shows including RTE Radio 1’s open-air concert in O’Connell St. Dublin as part of the city’s 1916 Commemorations.  Eleanor was joined by close friends Mike Hanrahan (guitar and vocals) and Paul Kelly (mandolin and fiddle).  Eleanor comments “what a great honour, how could it be anything other than an honour to be involved in the 1916 Commemorations in Dublin.  A very memorable performance for all the right reasons”. Acclaimed Irish Artist Releases CD in Aid of Carrickmines Survivors

In the early hours of the 10th of October 2015 a fire broke out at a halting site in Carrickmines in South County Dublin. Ten Travellers lost their lives including a young mother who was pregnant. This awful tragedy was followed by some of the worst discrimination this state has ever seen. Acclaimed Irish artist Ron Kavana, who is a member of the Celebration of Traveller Music Initiative, has a released an album in aid of the two surviving orphans of the blaze.

On October 10th 2015 Willie Lynch (25), Tara Gilbert (27) Jodie (9), Kelsey (4), Jimmy Lynch (39), Sylvia Connors, Thomas Connors (27) Jim (5), Christy (2) and Mary (5 months) died together when the large mobile home they were sleeping in caught fire. Their mobile home was one of five on the “temporary” Traveller site, which had been on Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines for eight years.

Mooney family to launch new CD on Rónán Beo @3 on RnaG

The well-known musical Ó Maonaigh/Mooney family from Cois Cláidí in Gaoth Dobhair will officially launch their new album live on Rónán Beo @3 on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta on Thursday 6th October.

The Mooneys were born and reared in the Gaoth Dobhair Gaeltacht in Donegal, an area rich in music and culture.  The group is made up of sisters Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (vocals and fiddle) and Anna Ní Mhaonaigh (vocals and whistle), their brother Gearóid Ó Maonaigh (guitar), and his son Ciarán Ó Maonaigh (fiddle).

This is the first album for the family as a musical group, and on Thursday Rónán will have them live in studio to play, and to talk about the new album which features songs and tunes, both new and old, and we’ll hear exclusive versions of those tunes on the show.
