Tulla Traditional Music Festival – Féile Chnoc na Gaoithe

If you are in search of a feast of traditional Irish music then come to Tulla, in East Clare for a fantastic weekend of traditional music at Féile Chnoc na Gaoithe, Tulla Traditional Music Festival.

Now in its 6th year this festival has grown and flourished and has become an important date in the traditional music lovers calendar. This year the Gala Concert on Saturday night features the award winning Mulcahy family in concert with Gatehouse, Oisin MacDiarmada, TG4 Ceoltóir na nÓg 2017 Liam O’Brien and the 2016 winner Órlaith McAuliffe along with All Ireland accordion champion Daithí Gormley.

Workshops will take place on Saturday at 10 am with John McEvoy, Oisin MacDiarmada and Bernadette NicGabhann teaching fiddle. John Wynne will teach the flute class, Liam O’Brien will teach concertina and Daithí Gormley will take the accordion students. This will be followed by the very popular Fiddle Feis, with competitions starting at under 8 and going up to over 17 for the title Young Fiddler of East Clare which has a cash bursary of €300 and the Vincent Griffin Cup for first place. Other prizes include scholarships to Scoil Éigse at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, workshops at Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy and Feakle Traditional Music Festival as well as Cups, Shields, Trophies and Medals.

Sunday at 3pm local band Out The Gap who have burst on to the scene in 2016, will entertain the crowd on a Gig Rig in the square ahead of an open air céili with the Tulla Céilí Band on Sunday at 4pm. Bernadette NicGabhann will launch her new solo fiddle album Here to Play on Sunday at 6pm. Other launches over the weekend are Brid Ó Gorman’s new CD Bluebells are Blooming on Friday night at 9pm. Legendary singer Nora Butler will hold court on Friday night at a singing session at Flan’s Bar. There will be music and singing sessions in the pubs throughout the weekend.
