The Seaview Sessions, live music, upstairs @ The Punchbowl, Booterstown, County Dubin

I saw Luka Bloom perform one evening in a small venue, candlelit, lovely atmosphere and a week later I saw John Spillane do exactly the same.

I sing myself for groups of American tourists that visit The Punchbowl, in an upstairs, old world, kitchen feel, front room kind of vibe of a room, and while singing, I thought that the room would make a great little intimate venue suitable for gigs for up to approx 70- 80 people.

So, I made a contact with John Spillane and told him I was thinking of taking a chance on the gig, and John said, ‘I’ll take the chance with you Lar’

And on April 23rd 2016, we had a full house to see John Spillane cast his magic spell over a very enthusiastic audience. John has been back three times, and will return again in the late autumn.

Mick Hanly followed and gave a great gig and gained new fans in the area.

In November of 2016 we were thrilled to welcome the legendary Christy Moore to The Seaview Sessions, and it will be a night long remembered for the beautiful, intimate gig it was.

We’ve had Singer / Songwriter nights that highlight new talent and give people a chance to perform in front of an audience that may not get that opportunity too often, along with seasoned professionals such as the great Wally Page , who headlined our first Singers night. Our support slots we try to give out to similar acts, but we had a ‘Poetician’ on one night, and he brought the house down, the brilliant John Cummins.

Luka Bloom came to play recently, and already has asked can he do a return gig….he’s welcome back anytime..and that will be before the year is out also.

We do plan to do a ‘weekend festival’ style set of gigs, over three nights, and that is in the planning right now.

Richard Meehan is the sound man at the gigs, and his continuous strive for an excellent sound at the shows is really noticed by all these acts that have graced some of the biggest stages in the world, and Richard receives fantastic feedback after every gig from the artists and audience alike.

We have been very lucky with a very loyal, and local following with many people returning to gig after gig, and we are gaining plenty of newcomers with each show, and with help of The Punchbowl owners, Joe & Catherine O’ Rourke, we will continue to bring the best of Irish talent to The Seaview Sessions.

Mick Hanly plays Friday 7th July at 8.30pm Tkts : €15 on 0868659814 to reserve.
