Paul Hickey - My Love and Me

When Karen Deneiffe first heard the song ‘My Love and Me’ she was assessing songwriter Paul Hickey for a practical music exam in the Carlow Institute of Further Education. This is a song, she thought, that I would love to sing. It was a hidden Gem on Paul’s 2006 ‘Coolhouse’ album and his own particular favourite from that collection.
When Paul moved to BIMM College, Dublin, for further musical studies he was advised to ask other singers to perform some of his songs to highlight them. When he got in touch with Karen and asked her to sing, she was happy to oblige. They, now, have a catalogue of material and played their first gig together, in Athy Arts Centre, last year.
Both Karen and Paul are involved in separate projects outside of this. Karen played ‘The Electric Picnic’ this year with the band ‘Road Wives’ and has , recently, sang on the soundtrack for the Baz David film ‘The History of This Moment’.
Paul was lead singer with 1980s band ‘The Alsatians’ and he, now, plays some solo gigs as well as teaming up with Brooklyn guitarist Paul McKenzie and Dingle musician Fergus O Flaherty from time to time. He is a third year mature student in BIMM studying songwriting.
