Music Network’s Autumn 2017 season gets off to a high-spirited start with three of Ireland’s finest traditional singers and instrumentalists: Cathy Jordan, Jarlath Henderson and Mick Daly. Prepare to be entranced as these inventive singers offer up some stunning new interpretations of well-worn songs, with stirring instrumental playing and more than a little theatrical energy thrown into the mix. On tour from 12 – 29 September, details at musicnetwork.ie.

Noted for her earthy yet ethereal vocalisations and deceptively powerful voice, Cathy Jordan’s irrepressible energy and powerful stage presence have captivated audiences worldwide. Lead singer of trad supergroup Dervish, Jordan has performed thousands of concerts in over 40 countries, including gigs at the Great Wall of China and the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.

For this unique tour, she is joined by Mick Daly, founder member of the ground-breaking group Four Men and a Dog, and Jarlath Henderson, youngest ever winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. Daly is an exceptional singer in addition to being a virtuoso guitarist and 5-string banjo player, while the Tyrone-born singer and multi-instrumentalist Henderson has won widespread acclaim for his playing alongside such luminaries as Lau, Capercaillie, Paddy Keenan, Salsa Celtica, the Peatbog Faeries and Wolfstone.

As part of Music Network’s Learning and Participation programme, Cathy Jordan will be facilitating vocal workshops, and Jarlath Henderson will be offering workshops for pipes and whistles to musicians of all ages around the country. Connecting Music Network tours to music education programmes continues our work in giving musicians rich, holistic musical experiences. If you are interested in setting up an activity for your school / music group / music school / orchestra, please contact Sarah Cunningham, Programmes Administrator on programmesdmin@musicnetwork.ie.

Music Network’s Autumn 2017 season will feature something to suit all tastes, with the warm lyricism of Norway’s internationally-renowned trumpet star Tine Thing Helseth, followed by the sublime German pianist Michael Wollny’s sensational jazz trio, and ending on a note of elegance brought by the award-winning French string quartet Quatuor Voce. Music Network tours are funded by the Arts Council and are presented in association with RTÉ lyric fm. Tickets for all regional concerts are available from individual promoters around the country. Single tickets for Dublin concerts range from €10 - €20, or enjoy all four Dublin concerts with a ticket bundle from €50.
