Dervish Sign with American Label Rounder Records and Announce First Studio Album in Five Years

Guest Vocalists to Include Andrea Corr, Steve Earle, Rhiannon Giddens, Vince Gill, Brendan Gleeson, David Gray, and Imelda May

US Tour Dates To Commence in March

Dervish, dubbed an “icon of Irish music” by the BBC, has signed with American label Rounder Records, part of the worldwide Concorde Music Group. The band, which has been a vital part of Ireland’s traditional music scene since 1989, is presently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their first album of new material in five years.

For this project, the band, whose recordings and dazzling live concerts have earned a devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic, has enlisted a remarkable array of guest vocalists, including Andrea Corr (the Corrs), Rhiannon Giddens, Vince Gill, Brendan Gleeson,  David Gray,  Steve Earle, and Imelda May.  More guests will be announced in the coming weeks.

Rounder Records co-founder Ken Irwin said, “I’ve been a fan of Dervish since the first time I heard their music. It’s been a pleasure working with the band on this project both because of their love and respect for their traditional roots while keeping an open mind to the future of their music and their commitment to this project.  We are very much looking forward to the release of this album and to working with them on future projects.”

Dervish’s Shane Mitchell concurs: “Dervish are honoured to be working with Rounder Records on this important album which contain some of the great and iconic folk songs from the Irish tradition. These are the songs we all grew up with, and are still as important today to a nation that is known for its music culture.”

The band - Michael Holmes (bouzouki), Cathy Jordan (vocals, bodhrán, and bones), Liam Kelly (flute, whistles), Brian McDonagh (mandola), Shane Mitchell (accordion), and Tom Morrow (fiddle) - is touring the US in March (dates are below). A Great Irish Songbook Live performance will also be launched later this year, at which time touring plans for 2019 and onward will be announced.

A release date for the album will be announced in the coming weeks.
