RTÉ RnaG bringing listeners great music all week from Miltown

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will be heading to Miltown Malbay for Willie Week, and broadcasting live from there from Sunday 8 July to Friday 11 July.

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta has been a stalwart supporter of the festival since the early seventies, although the programming content and scope has developed significantly in the intervening years.

This year, the broadcasting starts at 8 pm on Sunday 8 July with the Éirinn is Alba concert, celebrating the best of Irish and Scottish music, and the links between the two cultures.  The Irish contingent will include Christy Barry, Niamh Talty, the Cotters, the Killeens and, as is tradition, the concert will finish with some great set dancing.  The Scottish musicians will include Allan MacDonald, Alana MacInnes, Maighread Stiùbhart and Murdo MacDonald, to name but a few.

Then, from Monday to Friday every afternoon at 2 pm, listeners can tune in for live music and interviews on the programme Binneas Béil ó Shráid na Cathrach, presented by Seán Ó hÉanaigh.

Every evening Monday to Wednesday at 7 pm, RnaG Music Editor Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha takes to the airwaves with her programme Ceol Binn ó na Beanna.  Expect the unexpected!  Last year, Neansaí managed to squeeze 10 flute players into the Ródaí to play with Roscommon musician Tommy Guihen who was launching his CD, and she joined in herself as well!  She also gathered the award-winning Shandrum Céilí Band outside the Ródaí one of the evenings so bystanders got a real musical treat.

This year, as last, RnaG will be broadcasting plenty of the performances live on their Facebook Page, so if you can’t make it to Miltown, check in with them there for a taste of the action.  They also hope to get a mention in the wonderful Willie Times this year, as they have in previous years, and they’ll have plenty of beanie hats to give out to listeners who call to the Ródaí, which will be parked outside the Community Hall all week.

RTÉ RnaG live from Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy from Sunday 8 July, and throughout the week then from Monday to Friday.
