Mid-West to welcome top Scottish and Irish musicians

On Saturday 5th October, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will be bringing top folk and trad musicians from Ireland and Scotland together on stage in Glór in Ennis, Co. Clare for a gala concert to celebrate 25 years of the music programme Sruth na Maoile.

Audiences at the concert will be treated to the rare pleasure of a live performance from Karen Matheson, the outstanding Scottish songstress and lead singer with Scottish supergroup Capercaillie, accompanied by Manus Lunny.  Her Irish counterpart, Moya Brennan, the voice of Clannad, will be performing with harp virtuoso Cormac de Barra.  From Kerry, the legendary singer and box player Séamus Begley will be performing with his daughter Méabh and renowned guitarist Donogh Hennessy, who has played with Lúnasa, Sharon Shannon and John Spillane, among others.

From the east of the country, talented husband and wife duo Zoë Conway and John McIntyre, from Co. Louth, will bring their very special, intuitive guitar, fiddle and voice combo to the stage in Glór, and three of Co. Clare’s top musicians will represent the Banner County – Pádraig Rynne, Tara Breen and Elaine Hogan.  Pádraig and Tara have been performing regularly as a duo over the past number of years, and have toured as members of world-famous acts such as The Chieftains, Atlantic Arc Orchestra, NOTIFY and Heartbeat of Home. Completing the trio is harper Elaine Hogan, a musician with a unique approach to both melody and accompaniment who will be playing on her home turf in Ennis.

The Scottish lineup will be completed by young guns Eabhal who will present a blend of energetic instrumental sets and soulful songs on the night, and young Ruairidh Gray, 17, from the island of South Uist, award-winning accordion player and singer.  Conamara sean-nós singer and two-times winner of the prestigious Corn Uí Riada, Bríd Ní Mhaoilchiaráin, from the singing heartland of Carna, will complete the Irish lineup.

Tickets are €18/€15.  See www.glor.ie or call 065 684 3103.
