RIVERDANCE has been announced as the latest addition to the star-studded Concert4Cancer in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation.

The international music and dance phenomenon is celebrating 25 years since its first performance but due to the COVID pandemic, their international tours have come to an abrupt halt and they have not been able to perform together since early March. This special performance for the Concert4Cancer in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation will be one of the flagship pieces of the concert and is the first time in the history of the show that the original choreography will have been re-worked to ensure social distancing.

Concert4Cancer, proudly supported by the Permanent TSB Community Fund will be aired on Virgin Media One on Friday August 28th at 9pm and Riverdance will join a host of names including; Ronan Keating, Gary Barlow, Nathan Carter, Brian Kennedy, Lisa Lambe, Aimee, HotHouse Flowers, Paddy Casey with lots more.

Director and co-founder of Riverdance John McColgan explains why they came together to support the Foundation “COVID has been a very challenging time for all of us, and in Riverdance we had to make the difficult decision to postpone our 25thanniversary international tours. Our cast and crew have been unable to perform or come together like we usually would. When we were approached to get involved in this Concert4Cancer we were absolutely delighted to do so. All of us have been touched by cancer in some way, so when we were approached to get involved in Concert4Cancer we were absolutely delighted to do so. We feel that  if Riverdance can use the power of it’s music, it’s dance and it’s reach, to help this great cause, then we absolutely have to do what we can to lend our support. We were delighted to support the Marie Keating Foundation which support so many people going through cancer. For the performers, they were thrilled to be involved but also delighted to be able to come together in the spectacular setting of Slane Castle, to perform together once again. It is the first time in our 25 year history, that the original choreography has been changed to ensure a socially distanced performance and we are really excited to present this unique version of Riverdance during Concert4Cancer. We hope everyone tunes in, enjoys the show and donates on the night to support this great cause”

The Marie Keating Foundation’s income has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic, down an estimated 35-40%. This comes at a time when the demand for their services has increased  dramatically and the Foundation has had to mobilise and move services on-line to ensure it continues to support cancer patients and survivors at every step of their journey, especially at a time when they need it most.

Marie Keating Foundation Director of Fundraising Linda Keating says the excitement is really building for next week’s show “We are thrilled to announce the addition of Riverdance to the line up of  Concert4Cancer in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation. We have been blessed with all the amazingly talented musicians and artists who have come together while staying apart for this concert and we really hope that Concert4Cancer will give everyone a little boost and something to enjoy together as a family from the comfort of their own homes and just forget about COVID 19 for a couple of hours. We are so excited for everyone to tune in and enjoy this amazing  concert which will include a  spectacular 25 year anniversary performance from Riverdance.  We do need your support now and on the night and if anyone is able to donate please do, we would so gratefully appreciate it, thank you, you will be helping us  to continue to be there for, and support people are every step of their cancer journey.”

The Marie Keating Foundation is proud to have the support of media partners Extra.ie, Communicorp Media’s ‘Music and Entertainment’ stations, Today FM, 98FM, SPIN 1038 and SPIN Southwest and Irish Music Magazine, as well as its title sponsor the Permanent TSB Community Fund for this inaugural Concert4Cancer.
