The 18th Phil Murphy Weekend which this year commerates the 20th anniversary of the great harmonica players passing will be held in Carrif on Bannow in South County Wexford from July 24th to July 26th. The Festival features top class acts, Sharon Shannon and Renegade 09 featuring Mike McGoldrick, Gerry O’ Connor (Banjo), Dezi Donnelly and Tim Edey, At the Racket, Buille, Dermot Byrne, Dezi Donnelly and  Steve Cooney, Jimmy Crowley, The Buffalo Gals, The Sullivan Brothers, The Jukebox Gypsies, Gerry O’ Connor (Fiddle), Kevin Coneff, John and Pip Murphy plus many more.

A weekend of terrific concerts, sessions, workshops, ceili, historical tour and a launch of a dvd documentary commerating Phil Murphy and the Festvial will be performed by Liam Griffin at the opening on Thursday 23rd July which is Phil Murphy’s 20th anniversary.

Liam Clancy is unwell. He should have headlined the Saturday night concert at Carrick on Suir’s Clancy Brother’s Festival on June 13th but was unable to attend due to poor health.

His manager David Teevan apologised to the 600+ sell out crowd and told them that Liam was suffering from fibrosis of the lungs which made it difficult for him to breath and he reluctantly would not be able to sing this evening.

The singer Maxi had visited Liam earlier in the afternoon, as part of a writing project she is carrying out and said he was in great spirits, was working on editing an autobiographical movie, and she conveyed his best wishes and apologies for not being 100% to perform on the night. Each act on the night spoke warmly about Liam and all were quick to add that his contribution to our lives was immeasureable.

The show became a tribute to Liam Clancy, it included performances by Kevin Evans, members of Danu and a finale led by Liams’ nephew Finbarr Clancy.

We send our best wishes to Liam and his family and wish him a speedy recovery.

The cream of Irish traditional musicians will gather in Carlow town during the weekend of 19th to the 21st June. The atmospheric and historical Teach Dolmain pub is one of the venues for the ‘mini-fleadh’ weekend, but the session may move around the town as sessions normally do! Kicking off on Friday evening, the 19th June, a fine caliber of musicians will participate including Tom Morrow (fiddle), Triona Flavin (flute), John Morrow (banjo), Leonard Barry (uileann pipes), Geraldine Clancy (fiddle), Sean Fitzpatrick (guitar) and John Joe Kelly (bodhrán) as well as a many more local and visiting musicians, singers and dancers.

Young traditional group Mórga will launch their self-titled debut album in June. Mórga was founded in 2007 by four young musicians to create a band inspired by the sound and sheer energy of the great traditional Irish bands of the seventies. The band is based around accordion, fiddle and banjo as melody instruments, with backing provided by the rarely heard Greek bouzouki, creating rich high-end harmonies, and driven by the bass beat of the bodhran. The aim is to recreate a part of our musical heritage, which is too often lost in contemporary Irish music.

She has long held the attention of the followers of Irish music as one of the finest female vocalists in the world, and Mary Black has now confirmed that she will play live in concert at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar on 4th August.

Mary’s distinguished career has spanned over 25 years from her early days in Dublin folk clubs through ever-escalating success with seven platinum solo albums one of which - No Frontiers - spent fifty-six weeks in the Irish Top 30. Needless to say Mary Black is a seminal figure in Irish musical history and one of the artists responsible for its relatively recent blossoming on a global level.

Moving Hearts will play the Royal Theatre in Castlebar on Sunday August 2nd 2009 over the bank holiday weekend

Unfinished business!” was the reply given by Noel Eccles when asked why Moving Hearts were reforming, “when we last played in Ireland, the UK and at some European festivals in 1987, it was as an instrumental band and we always felt that we hadn’t finished exploring the possibilities of our unique line-up”. Many people in Ireland were happy to see Moving Hearts back together as an instrumental band and duly filled Dublin’s Vicar Street for 4 successive nights in February 2007.
